My Heart
vs. the Real World is a photo documentary book that explores
the lives of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) through
photographs and interviews with the subjects and their families.
There are ten children covered, and in an additional chapter, in
the spirit of solidarity, I give myself the same treatment. I was
born three months premature, with a congenital heart defect, and
have had a pacemaker since the age of eight. That's my x-ray on
the cover. It's not easy getting those things out of hospitals,
too.
The book is published by
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, and is available from their
website or from amazon.
