osie cotton had a hit song in
1982 called "johnny are you queer?" she recently released
a new album and this was shot for an interview done with her on the
occasion of its release. when i showed up at josie's apartment i was
surprised to find a much bigger production than i had originally anticipated
- she had costume changes, a make-up artist, a stylist, and a boyfriend
named "snail". i think my general problem with fashion type
shoots is that nobody seems to appreciate the ironic absurdity of
the situation. i just kind of let them roll with it, but managed to
get something a little more off kilter with the picture in the hallway.
the magazine ended up running a picture of josie with her dog, vixen,
and i later got an email from her saying that the picture made her
cry. i thought the picture was rather sweet, but i've long ago stopped
trying to second guess what a subject will like or will find offensive.
there's just no telling. |
