kim and tashena burroughs, december 2009

December 17, 2009

last week kim and tashena visited me. tashena lives in san diego now, where she takes amazingly lovely, ethereal and poetic pictures. kim was visiting from tucson.
kim is micah’s father. tashena is micah’s sister.

it’s hard to believe it’s been almost ten years since the last time i saw micah, almost ten years since he died. [...]

my friends come to visit, part 7 (jonathan)

September 17, 2009

since you’re reading a photographer’s blog there’s a good chance you already know who jonathan saunders is. if you don’t, look here. jonathan is in town for a rare LA visit, crashing on my couch a couple nights. jonathan being in LA means shooting shotguns (well, at least for him and bennett, not for me. [...]

my friends come to visit, part 6 (dana)

April 16, 2009

i met dana in the summer of 2001, at a party at peter gilstrap’s house. it was a fluke that i was even at this party, i really try to avoid parties as much as i can. when i do have to go to a party i generally stand in the corner and read the [...]

my friends come to visit, part 5 (paul)

March 9, 2009

corporal bennett has the misfortune of living in orange county, which means last weekend in between obligations in the real southern california (i.e., LA county) he stopped by my place to kill time. he was coming from a marine wedding (not his own) and going to shoot an event later in the evening in beverly [...]

March 4, 2009

my mother hates nearly every picture i take of her, but through some maternal grace still allows me to take them. i think if tommy wasn’t here at the same time she never would’ve gone for it. it’s hard to refuse when you have an audience, even for the camera shy.

March 2, 2009

i first met tommy almost fifteen years ago. i used to do sound for the bands that came to play at the school (yes, i was that geek), and geggy tah was a staple in town. tommy lived nearby in pomona. he was one of the first people to give me any credit as a [...]

my friends come to visit, part 3 (mark)

December 27, 2008

mark’s been one of my dearest friends since we lived in the same suite in college, nearly fifteen years ago. true, it took a while to warm up to the guy as the first thing he ever said to me wasn’t “hello”, but rather “i heard you’re loud. you better not make too much noise.” [...]

my friends come to visit, part 2 (helen)

December 17, 2008

helen and i went to high school together. the high school of the stars, though she was more of a star than i was. i first met her in my US history class in summer school, between 10th and 11th grade, and i was immediately scared to death of her. at crossroads we did summer [...]
