welcome to monday: three guys in suits
Written on April 21, 2008

well, it’s monday. okay, monday night, but i thought this would be an opportune time for a handful of updates from previous weeks. three guys in suits. one of these days i’ll convince all my fellow photographers to set up www.guysinsuits.com and we can put all these pictures in one place. in any event, welcome to the workweek everyone.
first up is tony lucich, network systems administrator for orange county, california. for this we were in a giant server room. these are always fun because they look ominous, there’s excellent air conditioning, mysterious warnings posted to the walls and this one even had a couple of giant supercomputers that looked like WOPR from wargames. the article was about employee monitoring, and i was instructed to make the picture something with a dark overall tone, something moody.

of course, this happened the morning after i sliced the hell out of my right index finger and stayed up all night in the ER. i managed to get one hour of sleep before going to the shoot. corporal bennett was gracious enough to help with the heavy lifting. tony himself was really nice about everything, and kind of reminded me of fonzie, if arthur fonzarelli was really into computers.
next up is another computer guy, but with a great name: themistocles sparangis.

he calls himself “themy”, but really, if my name were “themistocles sparangis” i would insist on everyone using my full name all the time, no exceptions. themy is the chief technology officer for the los angeles unified school district, and extremely good spirited about having his picture taken. this was shot in the hallway outside his office, and poor themy endured a fair amount of heckling from his coworkers.
last we have barry levin, a commercial attorney and the former chairman of heller ehrman. heller ehrman seems to be the kind of company that gets sued by erin brockovitch, but judging from their shiny offices they’re doing all right with it. thanks to the amazing amy mac for her help on this one.

so there ya go. three guys in suits for a monday night. three career options far more profitable and better dressed than “photographer”. something to think about. . .
