there’s an article in the NY post today about the hearts book! coolest thing, though, is that it’s one of the most emailed articles of the day. you can see the article here – and thanks to dr. rock for the sweet publicity!
also, i got a terrific email last night from the mother of a heart kid. she said i could reproduce it here:
Hello, my name is Leslie Ballard and I live in South Carolina and am President of the family support network Saving Little Hearts of South Carolina for children, families and adults affected by Congenital Heart Defects. My son Raleigh, age 3, was born with TOF and my husband and I have been developing a library of information and books related to CHD’s for us and for him if he is interested in it as he grows older. I was referred to your book by the great folks at TCHIN.org and preordered it. When we got the book, my husband and I had to immediately sit and look through it over and over. We were really touched by the stories and could identify with many of them. I hosted a family support meeting just a couple of weeks ago in my home and put the book out on our resource table and had so many families looking through it and asking where we got the book. They were equally as touched as we were and happy to know about the book and most likely purchasing it.
So I wanted to say Thanks! from a heart mom of a great CHD kid (see picture attachment of my little guy Raleigh). Our fav part of the book is that you left yourself last and let the kids tell the story.
Glad you enjoyed the pic of Raleigh, he is something else. We are currently having time with him getting his pants zipper and his zipper scar confused as we are trying potty training. Never knew that was going to be an issue and hard as daylights not to laugh when he does it. He just realized the other day that is little sister doesn’t have a zipper scar and told me “Too bad for Stevie, I will help her understand that she doesn’t have one.” He is a great kid! He noticed the scars on the children in your book and even stated they were like his, thanks for that!
Take care of yourself and continue to do great things!
Leslie Ballard
President

Mom to Raleigh age 3 TOF (2 open heart surgeries and heart cath by age 1, awaiting next surgery) and baby girl Stevie age 1 resolved PDA now HH!!
(just so it’s clear: TOF = tetralogy of fallot, a serious congenital heart defect. PDA = patent ductus arteriosis, CHD = congenital heart disease, and HH = heart healthy)
please visit savinglittlehearts.com for more information.
and here’s raleigh, photo by his mom (i’m guessing!):
