every once in a while in life you realize that things which seem strange can also be true. one of those things: people actually live in las vegas. like permanently. not just for a weekend that they wish they could forget about. perhaps even for a whole life they wish they could forget about. but not phil brody. he lives in las vegas (though originally from new york, betrayed by his accent) and seems quite content with it all.
phil brody is the chief technology officer for the clark county school district in las vegas that accounts for many thousands of students. he keeps the network running. considering the difficult time i have in occasionally providing tech support to my own mother who claims that “the internet is broken”, managing a network of thousands of computers is no small task.
phil also gave me what i consider the highest compliment to a portrait photographer. confessing at the outset to being a bit uneasy about having his picture taken, once it was all said and done he stopped and said “i can see why you’d be good at this. you have a really nice way about you.”
thanks, phil.

Very nice photographs. Even without my compliment, the story is warm and reinforces what I said about you.
I would appreciate it if you would send me copies of some of the better shots you took of just me and in combination with Randy Thomas.
Also, if you would send Randy some shots of his shots, I am sure he would appreciate it–remember, he spent as much time as I did posing for you and didn’t get to appear in the periodical..

at first I looked past these pictures pretty quickly, but at a second look, they are very nice shots. the eyes and dof in the first one are amazing, and the creative way you set his shadow in the second one for rim-shadowing (if thats even a word/technique). And the arrow to the head… I dig it
