just finish what you’re doing

Written on November 6, 2007

CEOs can be tricky to photograph. mostly because they generally look similar and you generally get stuck in similar looking conference rooms by harried publicists. also, CEOs aren’t renowned for their patience with photographers. it’s always a relief to me when the CEO arrives  kind of in the middle of doing something else. usually this keeps them busy while i fine tune the set up from the stand in (why is it that none of my assistants ever look like CEOs? oh, that’s right, because they’re photographers. . . the opposite of a CEO) and sometimes this gives me a chance to get something unguarded out of a subject who is generally very restrained.

paul jacobs showed up in the middle of writing a speech he had to give later that afternoon, and i was all too happy to let him finish what he was doing. i think the speech had something to do with corporate sponsorship of the arts, though there were no checks written with my name on it. still, a good cause, no doubt.

thanks to bennett for assisting, and for gleefully filling a long drive with horrifying war stories. you’re messed up, man.
