you are here

trying something new. actually, trying something new again. i started this on a different directory a few days ago, then spent the past few days developing carpal tunnel syndrome while preparing the main site to incorporate this blog. a word to the wise: before you start fiddling with filenames and directories you might want to read the wordpress FAQs first. i did not. so the brilliant witticisms and hysterical ramblings that were already present here are now no longer present.
still. . . i think i like this format, so i’m not so distraught that i’ll avoid starting over. my first dip of a toe into the public blogosphere, influenced by many factors. first, there’s the influence of friends – tim archibald for having a good idea, and bill smith for always perfectly executing a good idea. and mostly there’s the desire to just have a place to put all those pictures that don’t quite fit anywhere else.

for example: i must’ve driven past this sign hundreds of times in the past three years. i’ve always thought it’d make a great location, but never found the appropriate subject to put there. the other day, though, i figured maybe it didn’t need anyone else. there’s something about a “you are here” sign that’s kind of comforting. grounding, maybe. even if you don’t know where you’re going, it’s nice to know where you are, right? even if it’s a crappy, handpainted sign indicating where you are, and where you are is a parking lot of an abandoned building. there might be a metaphor in this, but still. . . comforting.
